Carved Chinese Cinnabar Jewellery

These elaborate pieces of cinnabar jewellery are similar to those once worn in the imperial court of China. These wooden art forms have been individually hand crafted by artists. The process requires a lot of patience and skill as the wooden forms are dipped in layers and layers of lacquer and allowed to dry.

They are then hand-carved with intricate designs that include popular chinese symbols such as dragons, flowers and characters to represent positive “Chi” or energy such as good fortune, longevity etc.
